Grain Storage

I give the cattle grain about 2 days per week.  For 20 cows I give about 200 pounds of grain each feeding.  That much gives every cow it's fill and they will all generally walk away before it is all finished.  

When I started, I bought grain in sacks.  That made things very hard:  take them off the delivery truck, stack them, store them, keep rats and mice out of them, dispose of the bags.  Now a grain truck just comes once a year and fills up my grain silo.  I use a mixture of 20% distillers grain and 80% ground corn.  Distillers grains are a byproduct of whiskey and fuel ethanol production. They have a very long history of being fed to livestock.
